How to opt-out of Unity-Canonical information gathering/sharing
To start let me explain what we are concerned about mainly is the sharing of information to 3'rd parties. Below is a list of 3'rd parties that information is shared with. Now don’t get me wrong some don't bother me but others do so I opt to not share..
3sat Mediathek, 7Digital, ABC iView, Amazon, BBC iPlayer, Bing Video, Dailymotion, Encuentro, Facebook, Flickr, Google docs (Google), Headweb, identi.ca, Picassa (Google), RTVE, SCI-FI-LONDON, TED Talks, Twitter, Ubuntu One, Vimeo, VODO, YouTube Education, YouTube Movies, YouTube Shows
Some may wonder what information is shared well here
"Collection and use of data
When you enter a search term into the dash Ubuntu will search your Ubuntu computer and will record the search terms locally.
Unless you have opted out (see the “Online Search” section below), we will also send your keystrokes as a search term to productsearch.ubuntu.com and selected third parties so that we may complement your search results with online search results from such third parties including: Facebook, Twitter, BBC and Amazon. Canonical and these selected third parties will collect your search terms and use them to provide you with search results while using Ubuntu.
By searching in the dash you consent to:
the collection and use of your search terms and IP address in this way; and the storage of your search terms and IP address by Canonical and such selected third parties (if applicable)."
Note: the list of 3'rd parties above subject to change.

on a good note it is easy to opt out
First we want to go to system settings then on to Privacy
now under the privacy tab when searching turn that off also go to the files tab and click all of them and make sure at the bottom it is off under recent clear history
reboot and your good to go. below is a video showing the steps and also how to kill the Amazon adds in the dash
